Squirrel Hotdog

The power went out at my house this morning. A damn squirrel was playing near the electrical station box, a stone-throw away from the house, and got itself fried. Blew the whole neighborhood grid. There was a big POP sound up the street, followed by complete power-outage. Somebody made the call and the repair technicians came out to get it fixed. The crazy thing is that this happens all the time. Same situation with a different squirrel. They pull the little burnt husk off the line, reset, and switch everything back on. I can't figure out why they don't put something around that electrified squirrel death trap to keep out the little buggers.

Bill and I threw a batch of brew together last night. It's a dark steam. It felt good to get back to brewing again. Been too long. Nearly 3 months, I think. Bill gets to think up the name on this one, since it's going to be something lawyery.

It's poker night and I haven't done one damn thing at work today. I worked my ass off the other four days this week, so it's time to take Friday for leisure web-based reading. Speaking of reading, I'm finishing "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. Excellent book and highly recommended to anyone who's not a religious nut and isn't going to get offended by some interesting theories offered about religious history.

Speaking of religious nuts, Doubleya is in town today. Someone in my office said they just saw him in a motorcade along the Sunset Highway. John Kerry is downtown right at this moment, speaking to an audience gathered on the Portland waterfront. Apparently, since both presidential candidates are in town today, traffic is going to be awful. As long as it doesn't cut in to my poker game at the infamous Monkey Ranch, then everything is going to be just fine.
