Zaftig Ass

Loaded down with contract work, I have been firkin busy as ever. This "choose your own work hours" thing is really nice, but knowing that when you're not working, you're not making any money is a bitch sometimes. I used to blog / surf / write emails to energy drink companies, asking for free samples -- all while being paid that wonderful salary. Now, I get to eat that time. It makes blogging all that much harder, knowing each entry is costing money. Whatever. At least I can download torrents without the hindrance of a network admin's fancy-ass firewall.

I spent last weekend on another coding spree in front of my computer in the home office. At least it was miserable weather all weekend, so I wasn't feeling bad about not getting yard work done or some such nonsense. This coming weekend is shaping up much the same way, unfortunately.

Tuesday was Bill's birthday, and we headed to the Horse Brass Pub for trivia night. I headed home from work, took Mia to soccer practice, then swung over to Billy's place to drive his happy ass down to Belmont. Also in attendance was Noland and The Kyle. Trivia night was supposed to start at 7pm, but after arriving just before 7 we got the idea there wasn't anything going on involving trivia. We asked the waitress about it and she acted like she vaguely remembered there being a trivia thing that had been cancelled over 2 months ago. Performing some quick math in my head, I figured that would put trivia night having run for a total of about 3, maybe 4 weeks. The first night for trivia was on February 22nd, and if it had indeed been cancelled 2 months prior to May 17th.... well, check my math but that's about it. Come on - that's not really trying out something new. Not that we had anything to do with motivating the pub to keep trivia night going, since our frequency at their establishment sits around every 3 or 4 months, but 3 0r 4 weeks is pathetic. You've got to let the word get out about it, and maybe promote it a little more than just leaving flyers on the tables and plugging a paragraph about it deep on your web pages. The word is that the Lompoc cancelled their trivia night as well. Suck.

I've got to open a damn pub now just to get the trivia night fix I've been wanting to scratch. Mid-week boozery with friends while trying to come up with answers to ridiculous questions should be encouraged in the local pubs.

Anyway, nice work on the birthday, Bill. It was a good time had. We all partook in single-malts and pints and lively conversation about nothing. Have another one of those any time.

I picked me up a bottle of HP sauce at the Belmont Station, which is some of the best multi-use sauce on earth with exception to the spicy peanut sauce at Fire on the Mountain. Get prepared for the perfect combination of our homebrewed Chili Ale and tasty wings from Fire on the Mountain. It could happen very soon, barring any legal hurdles courtesy of the OLCC.

Word of the day is zaftig.
