Old Guy Fueled Rock Attack

Friday. Holy balls. Friday.

I spent a good portion of the day working in the home office -- you know -- getting stuff done. Right around 5:30pm, Violet and I took the kids out in to the front yard for some serious yard maintenance. I took it upon myself to trim my most favorite plant life on our property, the beautiful Japanese Maple tree which graces the entrance path to our home. It gets one really serious trim every year, and then I just sit back and enjoy it for the rest of the year. I went a little over in my time trimming it and before I knew it, the time had rolled around to nearly 7pm.

I cleaned up a bit and loaded the table saw in to the back of the truck. Then I drove down to Noland & Jen's new place in Southeast Portland to drop off my cargo. It's in their plans to borrow every power tool I own in to their house for their ongoing remodel project. They are now one power tool closer to completion. I was going to leave it in the backyard with their 400 pound dog, Begbie, but he was giving me the impression that he would happily make a meal of the table saw as soon as I left, so I opted to leave it on the front porch, shoved in to the bushes to thwart would-be thieves.

Next, I headed for the Yamhill pub, but by the time I got there, half of the group there was leaving for the Shanghai Tunnel. I hadn't gotten settled, so I left with the group going to the Shanghai. We drank a few pints and waited for the proper moment to walk around the corner to Berbatti's Pan, where the show was to take place.

When we arrived, the first band was just finishing up their set. We waited. Next up was "The Beaded Albinos". Their real name was something else, but that's the name they should have used. I think I would have liked them years ago, but it isn't years ago... so I didn't. Noland pissed off some dude with his heckling of the band. That guy didn't start anything with Noland. The band deserved it too.

Finally, NoMeansNo came to the stage. I've heard plenty of stuff by NoMeansNo over the years, but I was in no way prepared for the attack of rock that their live show brought. In-fauking-sane. The show was incredible on every level. I wish I could see them again next week. They had 2 full encores, and when they finally left the stage they said they had a great time too -- which is about the best compliment I could think of. The crowd went ape shit.

So, to sum up the evening:
1. Old guys can most definitely rock your face off.
2. Taunting commentary by Noland is hilarious.
3. Bearded Albinos is a great band name.
