Nine Hours Of IKEA

The plan for the weekend was simple. Saturday, we would spend up in the Seattle IKEA to find us some new kitchen cabinets. Sunday was Violet's birthday, so we were going to relax and maybe have a nice dinner.

Since I still haven't found a pickup truck yet, we borrowed my brother Mikel's truck to take with us on the trip. Much better for hauling Swedish furniture than our Honda Accord. We dropped off Mia with her Grandma for the weekend, so we wouldn't be managing the two-year-old aspect of spending a day in a boring warehouse, looking at boring stuff that has nothing to do with Elmo or Nemo. We went to bed on Friday night, planning for a 6am early morning of getting up and kicking ass all the way up to IKEA and back. We'll be up there by opening and back by 6pm. Ah, how utterly stupid to make such bold plans.

We got out of the house late, but made up time on the road. We arrived at IKEA only 10 minutes after they opened. We were delayed by returning some merch as a favor for my parents and then I needed coffee to operate. We got in to the store at 11am with wide eyes and bushy tails, ready to tackle the objective head-on. "We're out of here no later than 3pm, right?", we agreed. 8 hours later, we leave the store in a daze. The truck has been filled to the brim with long, heavy boxes of ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets and hardware. We sure found a shitload of versatile solutions for modern living.

Sunday was a little more relaxing, but I still made a trip out to pick up our range and cooktop from Lowes. Some of the cabinets have been assembled too. Violet and I went out Sunday evening to have a nice dinner and ended up at Pizza Schmizza & Cold Stone because we were just so tired.

"...actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time. "
