Reason #131 For Opening Up A Brew Pub
Presently, I have one of those jobs where you have to submit to a drug test if ever asked. Anytime. No questions asked. They have many other messed-up rules and regulations to abide by, like no visible tattoos, piercings, hats, or bolo ties. Bolo ties should be outlawed in my opinion anyway. But this drug testing policy I have a real problem with. Some would say I NEED to be high to do the kind of work that I do (web application development). I'm not a government employee, operating heavy machinery, or working with explosives. So why should I be subjected to such a test? The simple answer: I'm not trusted.
Sure, for the most part the rule was created to scare employees in to behaving, because their job could be on the line. Isn't it enough to simply ask us to always be ready to do a good job during work hours and present your self to clients in a professional manner? That should pretty much cover it. Apparently not, since now there is a threat that even if you do those things you still could get canned if you were to take a toke of MJ during the weekend. That's a load.
I know this topic has probably run its course many times before, but it seems worthwhile to bring up again. In this time of our society being overrun by fear and kept in a constant state of traffic-light-colored terror, it just seems like one more unnecessary threat set in place by the company I work for.
And the crowd shouts, "This job sucks!"
