Marketing The Beautiful

I don't understand why this is, but 96% of the people who are employed at the same company I work for are freakishly beautiful. When I first started here, I thought, "Geez, there are some really good looking folks who work here. It must be somebody in the hiring department that just has a hard-on for looking at a set of great-looking individuals all day". I've since found that's not the case. Many people are involved with the hiring of individuals here and it's not simply controlled by some evil genius trying to make normal looking people poor and obsolete.

It's like Gattaca around here. I'm not insecure about this whole thing. I am simply just curious why this is happening so consistently. A quest for knowledge, if you will.

In the past, I've worked for tech companies. These companies do not hire pretty people. Most of the technology types were not blessed with the good looks, and often you'll run in to those working deep in the bowels of IT, whose hygiene would make even Beetlejuice from Howard Stern cringe. These are the very intelligent people I'm used to working with. This is also why the companies encourage their tech employees to come in during the evening hours, when customers aren't nearby to see their hideousness.

My company just hired 3 new people -- all sitting right across from me. All of them are freaking beautiful. I asked my wife what she thought of all the craziness and with her endless wisdom about how college works, told me why this is happening. Apparently while in college, beautiful people ALL go in to marketing or advertising. That's their way. There's some group of hired professionals who wait out in front of each college campus and corral every beautiful person who approaches. They ensure each has set their major to be either marketing or advertising, enroll them in a frat or sorority, practice the secret handshake, and then send them on their way. It's all arranged.
