Laptop Computing
I've had my current system at work for the past 2 years I've been there. It's a desktop PC which I built myself. A year ago, I doubled the RAM to extend the life a bit, but now the system is really dragging ass. As any developer knows, especially those who work on Windows-based systems, your development machine takes a beating. 2 years for a desktop system is basically the benchmark for it's total lifespan (in my opinion).
Anyway, today was the glorious day I have been waiting for, when I got to go shopping online for a new system. I picked out a wicked new laptop, along with some accessories to sweeten the deal. The package arrives some time early next week, so I'm going to sitting at the front door waiting like a methadone addict for that UPS guy to show up. That also means I'm going to be preparing my old machine for file transfer and cleaning. The "Cavalier", as the old machine is called, will be transitioned to a life of administrative tasks or light development.
I'll be riding out to Sauvie Island again after work to meet up with the family. Violet has taken to calling it simply "The Farm", like it's our family-owned farm that we go to. I'm looking forward to some wine, music, and food while sitting on a blanket in a field. Viva Thursdays at the farm!
