2 By Truck, 2 By Bike
I was unable to go out for a ride on Saturday, due to the powers that be. However, Spencer called me up to ask if he could borrow my lawnmower, as his landlord was going to be showing up the next morning and his lawn was exactly 3-feet-high. I already needed to go out and pick up my borrowed table saw from Noland, so I scooped up the youngest child, stuck her in the truck, and headed out with the lawnmower. A scant 5 minutes after we left the house, the kid was fast asleep in the driving coma. This was good, because I was able to flip on my Mickey Avalon CD without fear of her repeating back some of the lyrics in front of her mother later on. I dropped off the mower at Spencer's and then headed over to Noland's house for the table saw. I had to break in to get it, but I was quickly back on the road and heading home. It was at this time it really began raining and the wind really started going, and I was thankful I was not out on my bike at that moment. The rest of the day was uneventful.
Sunday was a beautiful sunny day. I patiently waited for my lovely wife to return from her business going-ons for the day, and thought about where I would ride to. She returned around 1pm, and I was out on the pavement by 2pm. I started out towards Hawthorne, by way of 42nd Ave (the bike way). I thought I would head across the Hawthorne bridge and drop down on to the riverfront walk to enjoy some cycling by the water. Along the way, I passed the Hawthorne Lucky Lab and started getting thirsty. I got down to the riverfront and came to a halt. It was filled with people slowly walking along enjoying the day. Damn! For some reason I thought I would have it all to myself. I made a mental note never to come this way again while the weather is so nice. I SLOWLY made my way through the throngs of people and down on to Naito, taking me NW towards Thurman. Again, I took a short detour and went right by the NW Lucky Lab Brew Hall, again getting very thirsty. I would have stopped for a pint, but I had exactly zero cash in my pocket. This was familiar territory, so I decided to head out towards St. John's Bridge and stop at Spencer's house to get some beer from him. Spencer was home, but he had no beer. He was kind enough to buy me a pint a block away at the "You're In". PBR was consumed. From there, I decided I would make a full trip of it, just as I had the day before in my truck, and go over to Noland's house. So, out Marine Drive and around I-205 on to Killingsworth, all the way to Noland's house. He and Jen had many beers left over from the party the night before. Again, I consumed a PBR, thanked them and went on my way. The last stop I made was over at the Sandy Bike Gallery, which is an awesome store. It reminded me I need some new gear.

Hey! You are a biker guy again, how cool! I am still bike-commuting lots, but my gf and I have a 2-drinks limit while cycling (or driving) so that curtails my summer drunken biking...which is a drag. That used to be the funnest way to get home from the bar.
