Tour of France

Something I never really thought I would do:  Closely begin to follow the Tour de France.  For the uninitiated, I'm talking about a nearly month-long cycling contest.  It can be somewhat equated to the World Cup of cycling.  Many teams from all over the world compete.  Fantastic sports-type drama ensues.

This is my second year of following the Tour closely. Last year, I knew hardly anything about the sport -- other than the obvious "fastest guy wins" stuff. Thanks to kick ass cycling coverage on Versus, I watched a bunch of the spring classics, as well as the Tour of California and the Giro d'Italia, and everything I have learned only makes me dig the sport that much more. I never realized how much of a team sport cycling is, and all the strategy and positioning that happens before and after, as well as during each stage. Awesome.

Did you watch Robbie McEwen win stage 1? That was fucking unbelievable.
