UW Undergraduate Presentation

Yesterday, I headed up to Seattle and the University of Washington Business School to assist with the presentation of an undergraduate project proposal to undergraduate business students.

This is not a normal Tuesday evening for me.

Myself and a business associate of mine (some dude I did some work for) made the trip up there together. Basically, he is a graduate of UW and a former VP of HP (you know -- the printer company). He started a unique sort of business and needed my web application expertise to run the web side of his business. We launched the application back in June of this year and it has been working well. However, he felt the business could utilize some "free" resources in terms of marketing & development ideas. He spoke with some old professors of his and got ourselves set up to present our joint effort in front of students looking for a project to complete their educational credit requirements.

When we got up to the UW campus, we found the classroom where we were presenting. We slapped on some name tags, met the business professors and settled in for the presentations. Including us, there were 5 companies in all. In order of appearance, they were: Expedia.com, Alaska Airlines, King County Metro, and DMP Interactive. We did our thing when it was time and we answered a few questions from the students afterwards. The response was not overwhelming for our project, but hey - we were up against Expedia.com.

Overall, I was suprised that the students really didn't ask many intelligent questions. They just seemed to be asking very surface questions which had little to do with the projects presented. I spoke with a few students who were very enthusiastic about our project, but again they asked dumb questions with no substance.

We're going to hear back from the interested students to create a team for handling the project requirements by the end of October. Either it will fly or it won't. This could be a good thing if it pans out. It doesn't look real likely though.
