Friday's Photo

I realize I am running out of photos to post. I must take more.

It was a sad, sad day of homebrewing sadness when I had to throw out 5 whole gallons of Hefe which Billy and I have been waiting to tap for months now. After force-carbonating it for several days, I came back to check on the keg to make sure it was ready for drinking from and heard the sound of fizzing. I switched off the C02 and disconnected it from the keg. Damn faulty keg! Damn homebrewer not testing the seals of the damn faulty keg before using it!

Anyway, I released the keg pressure and checked out the inside. Apparently enough air and random bacteria had made its way inside the keg to completely contaminate the brew. The surface was covered with a solid layer of white mold. Not to easily give up and throw out ANY beer, I carefully racked the lower 4 gallons of tainted brew in to a clean keg; leaving the top layer of mold. The color was perfect but the smell seemed a little off.

The moment of truth.... I tasted the brew. Butter. Just to be sure, I tasted it again and spit out more butter. Sadly, I dumped out both kegs in to the yard and cleaned up. Before completely tossing them both, I bottled 2 bottles worth of the Butter Hefe and saved them for Billy. It was once said that we could save any brew. Not this one, my friend. Here's your proof.
