Out With A Touch Of The Work
Posting today for yesterday. Don't freak out on me.
I took the day off work so I could spend some quality time at home... working. That's right, my skillz as a fancy-pants web coding machine were called upon for another rush-job-that's-due-to-my-CEO-tomorrow contracting gig. I call in sick for the day and I get to code from the comforts of home. It made me realize just how much I miss the time working in my pajammas and drinking my own coffee. No commuting and no smiling at people in the break room who I don't even know. Oh, and the break room at home is stocked with booze. Awesome.
I spent 3 whole years doing just that. I don't think it will ever be like that again either. The time I spend working at home now is constantly "billable" time, which I actually need to work the full hour that I'm billing the client for. I used to be able to slack to my GTA-loving happiness, because everything was just project-based. I would get the project done and then sit on my ass for a couple weeks. I like sitting on my ass. A lot. I wouldn't do it all the time, since that would get boring and I would need sunlight and exercise at some point. But, I could get most of that in the summer months. I think it was best expressed by Peter of Office Space when he said, "I'd relax, sit on my ass all day, I would do nothing". Sweet.
